Chess Round 5

The Senior Team played Girraween A at Girraween. Fatog Makog, Darrymen Deligero, James Biniahan and Raushik Chandra believe that Girraween are the team to beat in the competition. Although all members lost their games, they enjoyed testing their mental strength. The power of the mind – the avenue to success in study was awakened, developed and strengthened by chess. Every match is an experience to learn new strategies and meeting new opponents.

“ We all love playing Chess” cried the Intermediate Team Players "and do not forget about us."

“I’ve only lost one match, which I’m really pleased with” said Sehajeep Singh. The other Intermediate Players are;

Unish Shrestha

Aman Jasmal

Angelo Reyes

Ethan Sibacao

Parminder Nolain

Kris Carpio

Hilik Ahuja

“ We practise at recess and lunch; we learn different winning game techniques from each other.”

“ We’ve been playing since Year 7 so we know each other’s game strategies very well”

“ It’s mentally intense but we’re enjoying the competition!’’

Indeed they do as the Intermediate Teams won six matches out of eight against Quakers Hill High School in Round 5.

The Junior Team had a BYE in Round 5 but they will be playing Baulkham Hills High School on Friday the 17th of June. We wish them all the best in thinking of tactics to take their opponents by surprise. I call them the team of the smiling assassins.

All the gentlemen players send their love, best wishes and prayers to their Chess Master Mr Aaron. All the boys are so grateful that you taught them the Game of Kings and you can never be replaced.

I would also like to thank Miss Mary Lipec, Mrs Julianne Beecroft and Mr Jayred Leaves who have helped with the organisation of the 2016 Competition. Their work has been most invaluable behind the scenes.

Until next time from Ms Blackwell
