Year 8 Reflection Day

On the 22nd of August, Year 8 had an opportunity to have a whole day to reflect on their various, individual concepts of God. Whilst some thought God was with us, others believed that he is above in the clouds. It was a great chance to explore our own ideas or concepts of the Lord. Reflection Day was held to help Year 8 in their upcoming assessment for  Religion called “Images of God.” We all had a chance to reflect upon ourselves and our actions that affect the earth as a whole. It was a time where we all pledged upon something. Something which could change the shape of our future.

The day was divided into three sessions which covered different ideas and qualities about God. The first session was run by Mrs Cianter, she talked about poverty and homelessness. Her powerpoints consisted of major world problems affecting people our age, and the elderly. We then were asked to reflect on some shocking images, and answer questions that made us feel lucky for where we are.

After recess we had a session with Mrs Robinson where we drew a poster per group on one of the worlds most biggest problems, such as, Homelessness, Hunger and Poverty. Another activity we did was sketch our hand on a piece of paper, we then cut it out, then we wrote five different qualities of God which rest upon our shoulders. Word such as: Loving, Kind, Caring, Funny, Happy. The Year 11 students helped the teachers collect all of the hands and staple them on together, so that they form a love heart.

The third session we had was after lunch and with Mr Dunaeff, where we learnt a really important quality of God, being “Humble.” To do good, but not to show it off to everyone. In our groups we had to pledge to do one thing, just one little something which may help the people who suffer from disastrous problems every day.

After we exited the Senior Campus we really felt like we had a lot of fun. It was truly a great experience. Not only did we have a lot of fun, but on behalf of Year 8 we would like to thank the Year 11 students and the teachers for increasing our knowledge on who is God for different people.
